Who is Dame Jane Campion? A brief biography of Glenorchy's own star behind the silver screen

Glenorchy residents are proud of their famous daughter... Dame Jane Campion is a highly acclaimed director; the brains behind award-winning films and the blockbuster crime thriller series Top of the Lake - which was shot right here at the top of Lake Wakatipu. She has a home here - up in the beautiful Rees Valley - and visits several times a year. If you visit Glenorchy then you might here her name mentioned, so here's a short biography of the Glenorchy's lady behind the silver screen. The aptly named Paradise is a must visit during your time in Glenorchy... The stunning Lake Diamond and surrounding mountains look like something off a Hollywood  movie set - and they are! Numerous directors, including New Zealand's own James Cameron ,have chosen the spot to shoot some top films. Below is a list of some of the films, TV shows and music videos shot in the area. Best things to do in Glenorchy or Kinloch when the sun goes down

Rain or shine, you're never short of things to do at the top of Lake Wakatipu in the daytime... But it's the same once the sun goes down too. Despite the quiet, slow-paced way of life, there are plenty things to do at night here in Kinloch or over the water in Glenorchy Jam Night: The last Friday of every month is the Kinloch Lodge restaurant and bar Jam Night where everyone is invited to come along and play or enjoy live music. It starts at 8pm and there are free bar snacks and wine from $5 a glass. So come down, have a listen, have a drink, have a laugh, meet new people and, if you're up for it, have a play. I want to hike the Routeburn but it is just too expensive: Four tips on how to beat rising Great Walks prices

SO it’s a fact ; hut prices for four of the nine New Zealand Great Walks are going up in October ... From 23 October , trampers from overseas will be paying almost double to stay on the track - and that includes the beloved Routeburn route too. Non-Kiwis will have to pay $ 130 a night on the Fiordland National Park track from the Spring. But don't fret, because here at  Kinloch Lodge  - the closest accommodation to the start of the Routeburn - we have some top tips on how to beat the rising prices and save some cash. It'll be $130 per person per night to stay in DOC huts on the Routeburn Track from October 23.
