Travelling with the kids can be stressful...


But despite all the organising and pre-planning, every parent knows that it's those times when you're on holiday, away from home and together as a family that you cherish most.

Here at Kinloch Lodge - at the tip of the beautiful Lake Wakatipu - there are plenty of fun activities for families, big and little kids, as well as opportunities for busy mums and dads to enjoy some personal pampering

Catch a whopper in the lake:


Lake Wakatipu is well stocked with beautiful salmon and trout and Kinloch Wharf - situated just 50 metres from our restaurant at Kinloch Lodge - offers some of the best fishing on the lake.

Rods are available to hire from our Kinloch shop from $15 per day which includes the use of 3 lures. Our on-site shop also stocks more gear if required.

Treat yourself (and the kids) to a delicious treat or quirky present from The Trading Post:



There is all sort of goodies on sale in our café The Trading Post in Glenorchy.

From delicious warm chocolate brownie, to a naughty ginger slice and our world-famous carrot cake. We also have a range of savoury baked treats too. 

For the kids there are a host of books, games and cuddly toys and for mum or dad there is a beautiful selection of top-quality real possum fur fashion wear.

Jet-boating:

Jet-boating is a great family-fun experience. Around Glenorchy and nearby Queenstown there is an abundance of operators to choose from.

Goldfield Jet Boat Rides offer 40-minute trips ip the mighty Kawarau River - through the heart of one of NZ's most historic gold mining regions. 


And with children able to get onboard from $59 with Goldfileld Jet Boat Rides, it's one of the cheaper options too.

White-water rafting:

New Zealand offers some of the most exhilarating whitewater rafting in the world. But everyone has to start somewhere.

Family Adventures take famillies on the upper Shotover River, Queenstown. 

The grade 1 and 2 rapids are perfect for little ones as young as 3-years-old and water confidence is not necessary.

Horse-riding:

Whether you are a first-timer or experienced rider Wyuna Stables is great for people of all ages and experiences.

An exclusive ride costs $125 per hour but we certainly recommend the 2.5 hour ride.

The scenery is breathtaking and Ruth-Ann and Dave, who run the business, know so much bout the area, love their horses and want to give you the best experience.

Cook together as a family:

Our backpacker accommodation at Kinloch Lodge is part of the worldwide YHA family. 

The comfortable, clean and well-stocked kitchen and lounge facilities allow families on a budget to come together, cook and eat - quality time that is sometimes hard to find at home.

There is also a cosy TV room so families can enjoy one of 200+ DVDs or videos.

If you don't fancy eating in, we have an on-site restaurant or there are some great restaurants in nearby Queenstown that a great for families.
